These new statues cannot be fast traveled to using the Song of Soaring. In addition, several more Save Statues have been added around the game, and bear resemblance of a feather quill instead of an owl.

This has changed in the 3DS version, as you no longer need to strike the Owl Statue to save, and you can continue playing after you save the game. You also needed to use a sword to activate each Owl Statue first. In previous versions, the only way to save in Majora's Mask besides playing the Song of Time was to use an Owl Statue to save your progress up to that point and quit. Note that you can still rely on the control stick to aim as well. The 3DS uses gyroscopic controls to enhance first person viewing, and aiming with weapons like the Hero's Bow, Hookshot, etc. If your magic runs out, you can still press R, but will only gain a short small boost.

To enter that faster swimming method, player must hold down R as well to activate Zora Link's barrier, causing him to drain magic at the cost of going faster AND electrifying enemies. In addition to the normal swimming by moving the control stick in the water, holding down A will now cause Zora Link to swim at a moderate pace, unlike the fast pace used in previous versions. When using the Zora Mask, Zora Link behaves slightly different while swimming.
